Carnegie Mellon University is a private research university located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was founded in 1900 by Andrew Carnegie as the Carnegie Technical Schools. The institution was renamed the Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1912 and began offering bachelor's degrees. In 1967 it merged with the Mellon Institute to become Carnegie Mellon University. Its undergraduate colleges and schools include the School of Computer Science, the College of Engineering, the Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Mellon College of Science, the Tepper School of Business, the College of Fine Arts, and the Heinz College's Information Systems program.
